A fascinating look at the “secret sauce” of leadership—learning to assist and give recognition to others while suspending your own need for credit

Whether you’re starting a new business or running a Fortune 100 firm, finding success as a leader requires a monumental shift in the way you approach your business and your employees. We are born thinking about “me”—it’s a survival thing. But the leadership journey requires a shift from thinking first about ourselves to thinking first about others and their part in any effort in which we are involved.

The Shift from One to Many helps you move into a leadership role with grace and ease by mastering three essential skills facilitating the output of others, giving them recognition, and relinquishing your own need for praise in the process. On a four-stage journey through the leadership continuum, you’ll learn how to

• Recognize and manage the self-interested mentality of the “Me” Stage in yourself and others
• Share credit in the “Us” Stage when working with or leading a team
• Facilitate the output of others and minimize the need for acknowledgment in the “Letting Go” Stage
• Focus exclusively on others and share your expertise without any desire for personal recognition in the “Giving Away the Gold” Stage

With a wise and discerning approach to workplace relations, the author demonstrates how professional altruism can guide the trajectory of your career, helping you find greater satisfaction and success as a truly exceptional leader.

The Shift From One to Many A Practical Guide to Leadership eBook Chrismon Nofsinger Reviews

This is a must-read guide to leadership and executive development for executives, managers and leaders at all levels. The beauty of this book is its simple and practical, yet purposeful approach. In today's complex world, The message is powerful. Dr. Nofsinger provides a framework for transformational personal and organization growth. His approach is a combination of management guru Dr. Peter Drucker (whom Dr. Nofsinger studied under at Claremont University) and the father of servant leadership Dr. Robert Greenleaf. Whether you are in the corporate, public or non-profit sector, this book will be useful to you. Dr. Nofsinger's extensive experience consulting and coaching some of the nation's leading corporation, venture capital firms and executives shows through in this book. After I read it, I purchased copies of the book for our leadership and management teams. This is definitely one for your management bookshelf. Looking forward to release of his next book in 2013, "Stage Intelligence The Simple Secret to Positive Relationships".
As someone who has been on a number of boards, committees and teams, I found Dr. Nofsinger's book to be an eye opener. The book helped me recognize why, in my experience, certain group leaders were successful and others not. Dr. Nofsinger provides a clear and practical road map to success for anyone assuming or thrust into a leadership role. This book will certainly be put to good use the next time I'm asked to chair a group.
The framework and big picture view this book takes is both worthwhile and useful. However, the examples, due to the size of the book, are lacking. I think this book, even though it brings up examples of newer and younger leaders, is really for the experienced leader who is very self aware. There are many times that I caught myself saying "oh yeah, I do that" and I've been a sales leader a long time. I would recommend any leader, with a few years experience, absorb this short book to understand where they currently are in their journey to become the best person they can become.
The "Shift from One to Many" is a practical well written easy read on "Leadership".
It should be a helpful learning guide for all those executives that are trying to grow a successful management team.
You know those management books that have some good ideas but dribble on forever? This isn't one of those; One to Many has an excellent model for leadership that, along with many nuggets of wisdom and illuminating examples, is expressed cleanly and concisely. Its brevity adds to its power. Highly recommended reading for anyone in a leadership position (or anyone who wants to be in a leadership position!).
The Shift From One to Many has pearls for both new leaders and old hands. It's clear style and no nonsense approach makes it a perfect choice for mentoring. I have already used it to kick start conversations with colleagues about the leadership journey. And for myself, its time to give away the gold. Bravo, Chrismon. This book will be making an impact for years to come.
You think you're a good leader? A good CEO? An effective one? I challenge you to read this book.

If you are a CEO, then this book for you. It doesn't matter if your organization is large or small, a for-profit or a not-for-profit. Like a hit-seeking missile, it will pinpoint where you're at as a leader and where you need to go. But don't worry - you won't blow up. It will give you clear, concise advice on where to go, how to make your company not only succeed but thrive.
Quick, easy read with some very practical advice. I think I read the whole book in less than 30 minutes.
