Lauren Played edition by Margaret Lynette Sharp Ronald William Sharp Romance eBooks

I’ve read a few of Margaret Lynette Sharp’s short stories, which have become more enjoyable every time I read the next one. She writes clean, contemporary fiction - often a rarity these days, yet older teenagers will enjoy her charming way of introducing her character, Lauren to us. Who is there among us who have not loved and lost, a first love, experiencing its painful after effects of self doubt and anxiety? In Lauren’s case, she’s completely fooled by her first love, Rob, who promises her an acting career, and a wonderful relationship. Despite her youth, she commits herself to him, just to discover that his life is a lie, and that she’s just one of many who foolishly gets involved with a married man.
How Lauren deals with this situation, warding off her sister, Becky’s questions, her mother’s concern, and how she meets another man she might love in future, are interesting scenarios explored by the author who weaves a flawless, fast paced plot with a pleasant, surprising conclusion. Highly recommended.

Lauren Played edition by Margaret Lynette Sharp Ronald William Sharp Romance eBooks Reviews

"Lauren Played" is a quick, delightful read; a story of a young girl taking a chance on life and love. Things go wrong - and right - and through it all, Margaret Sharpe's easy-flowing style makes the journey an enjoyable one.

The gorgeous Aussie beach-side setting also appealed to me.
Many would say it's not possible for a sixteen year old to know what REAL love is like and is BOUND to make the wrong decision, but I'm sure that hasn't ever stopped anyone finding out for themselves.
Lauren Played is a novella by Australian author, Margaret Lynette Sharp. Sixteen-year-old Lauren has stars in her eyes when a local movie producer gives her a part in a short movie. Sure that she has found love and an acting career at the same time, she is heart-broken when he breaks it off. But then she tries out for the lead in the new school play and meets the playwright. Sharp’s characters are ordinary people dealing with everyday situations using natural dialogue that has a local feel. This novella touches on a few topical themes a young woman experiencing first love; doubts about the fidelity of a chosen partner; a situation that prompts an important life decision. An enjoyable read.
Sixteen year old Lauren was devastated when her first love, Rob, let her down gently but firmly. Rob had been directing a short film and when he’d spotted her on Cronulla Beach, he’d asked her to play a small part. But when filming had ended, so had their fledgling relationship. She had been so sure they would last forever; now she was sure her heart would break.

Months later, just short of her seventeenth birthday, another young man entered her life. David was a nice person, good looking, attentive – but was Lauren ready to leave Rob in the past?

This is another enjoyable novella by Sharp who writes romance with feeling, while exploring the tenderness of young love and the emotion when things go wrong. A great short story for romance lovers everywhere.
The title is obviously a triple entendre, but in the end, Lauren isn't "played" at all, but if "the play's the thing," she goes off stage a winner.

What is most striking about this romantic set piece is not that it's a page-turner (which it is), or that the narrative and the dialogue synchronize with poetic precision (which they do)... but that Lauren, a young woman barely seventeen is so authentic, so believable in every way, in her every thought, as she navigates the emotional transition between her first relationship and the one certain to succeed.

Stories of young women who want to act tend to be formulaic, the heroines secure and determined and manipulative, but this one isn't. Lauren is insecure, uncertain, introspective -- talented but modest, wanting to keep her personal and professional aspirations in check -- but she misses nothing, and all her emotions ring true as crystal. The final scene is heartwarming. Five stars.
